About Deborah Ann Davis
I am the author of Fairly Certain, Fairly Safe, and the upcoming Fairly Obvious, all from my Love of Fairs series.
Look for my nonfiction workbook, Girls Guide to Good Guys, this fall. It’s an “edutaining” look at alternatives to bad dating habits in teenage girls.
I have been writing since I was assigned to keep a Journal in my 5th grade English class. When I began to look around for writing inspiration, lo and behold, I discovered my world was full of funny stories just waiting to be told. As I grew older, occasionally I could manipulate one into some school assignment, but it never occurred to me to pursue writing, not even when I discovered my flare for telling stories at college parties.
After a string of college majors, I realized I could have a captive audience EVERY DAY in the public school system. As it turns out, teenagers love to laugh, and what could be more entertaining than Biology, Earth Science, and Environmental Science? Then there’s the added bonus that once kids know you like to laugh, they want to make you laugh.
I taught for 25+ years, although somewhere in the middle of all that educating, I stepped out six years to do the Mommy Thing, and run the office for our family construction company. In addition to Writing, I am also an Educational Speaker and a Certified Personal Trainer.
Even though we had followed separate paths, I reunited with, and married my childhood sweetheart, twelve years after our first kiss. Together we coached our daughter’s AAU Basketball Team, which swept States two years in a row. (Yay!) Then, for several years our daughter and our money went to college.
We currently reside on a lovely lake in Connecticut. I enjoy dabbling with living a sustainable life, creating a Girls Guide program that promotes a better way for teenage girls to see themselves, writing novels for my Love of Fairs series, dancing, playing outside, and laughing really hard every day. I promote increasing the amount of movement throughout your day via Wiggle Writer posts on my blog, Merry Meddling, and on Twitter @WiggleWriter and @DeborahAnnDavis.
Remember, you can do anything if you set your mind to it— including becoming an author at any age! Life is way more fun if you are grinning back when the Universe smiles down on you.
